Development of a poem final version

After some work to improve the structure and re writing parts this is the final(ish) version. No doubt every time I read it again I will want to change a word here or there but you have to stop somewhere. It also gains a title.

What autumn means to me

In the shops the bags of veg for soup appear
in the streets the light summer clothes disappear
winter coats, cardigans, sweaters become the norm
socks and big warm boots replace dainty shoes
as the first chills of autumn appear

Windows closed and heating turned on
the smell of smoke from the newly lit fires
halloween costumes arrive in shops
the first signs of Christmas appear
as we prepare to celebrate the change of season

Trees present a multi coloured glory as their year ends
leaves drop to the ground draping it in a rustling blanket
butterflies and birds have flown who knows where
Vs of geese fly over sounding mournful as they pass
as nature marks summers end and warns winter to come

The first frosts coat the land in a gleaming white powder
at its touch the last flowers shrivel away
mists start to appear filling the valleys with a white sea
up above clouds gather forming a solid white sky
as the season slowly slides into winter

Nights grow longer, colder, darker driving everyone indoors
orange glows from the windows promising of warmth inside
walking on a cold sunny day wrapped up warm brings contentment
diamond clear blue skies are a joy to behold lifting the spirits up
as cold compensates with the beauties it creates
